These latest changes should make Typecast even more useful and enjoyable to work with by providing:
- better design control;
- more convenience; and
- greater stability.
So without further ado, here’s what’s new and improved for you.
Hundreds of fonts
We launched our beta with over 100 of the most popular web fonts, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. You can now add fonts from the full Typekit library. Just use the text field in our fonts menu as a search box. With this you can preview more than 700 Typekit font families (with 2,728 variations!). And we’ll be adding our other partners’ libraries soon.

Relative units
We’re big fans of designing with ems. They allow us to create resolution-independent layouts, and they scale nicely because they work based on the browser’s font size. So in that sense they are a typographer’s best friend.
Now you can set your text, line height, margins and spacing in ems. We’ve also thrown in percentages. Or just stick with pixels. Whichever feels right to you.
Typecast now includes em and percentage measurements as well as pixels.
Expanded style control
To give you more flexibility as you decide on your typography, you can now duplicate and rename styles as well as delete custom styles. ‘Duplicate’ and ‘rename’ should give you a bit more scope to experiment and more easily mix and compare combinations. Then just ‘delete’ to clean up your style sheet once you’ve settled on your choices.

Style shortcuts
A number of you said you’d like to be able to set your own base styles on projects rather than work from Typecast’s defaults each time. To help with this, we’ve added a ‘Duplicate Project’ button. It’s handy if you want to create a template to use as your starting point for each new job.
New ‘duplicate projects’ feature makes it easier to set your own baseline styles.
Password control
It’s a minor but important improvement. When you forget your password, we’ll send you the autogenerated, impossible-to-remember replacement like always (like TY&COJm4), but now you can change it to something human in the new Accounts section.
Bug fixes
Previously, some of you with firewalls were unable to create or open projects in Typecast. This should be all sorted now, but if you still run into problems, definitely let us know.
There were also some known problems with pasting in copy, which we’ve been able to improve. You should experience far fewer error messages with this action now.
New status blog
We also now have a status blog where we’ll be posting news on bug fixes, status updates, notes on releases, etc. So if you like to be the first to hear about changes, even small, incremental ones, maybe add it to your feeds.
